Happy Birthday Dear Sean

This year, for my birthday, several musician friends (whom I’m fans of as well) contributed their own versions of songs I’ve written over the years. I was completely blown away. I’m definitely unworthy of a present like this and I sincerely appreciate the time and thought that went into it. Also, most of the artists had the unenviable task of deciphering lyrics from muddied demos. I would estimate about an 85% success rate-further evidence that I’m friends with some very talented folks.

Thanks again,

Sean

Gentle Giant

Unless you’re a major audio nerd, we recommend the 320k MP3 format option

Gentle Giant is a 3-song digital single released through a partnership with Theory 8 Records.

Years ago, a brash, young group of rock and roll misfits went from club to club persistently persecuting the musical sensibility of anyone who deigned to pay a cover charge to see them.

This maltreatment of music fans continued until one fateful night, on a dark road when they found themselves blinded by a powerful light. As they poured out of their van and onto the street, the light spoke to them saying, “Go to Murfreesboro, Tennessee and find my faithful analog servant, Brian Carter. He will guide you on your new musical path.”

The band did as they were told. They studied and learned from the aforementioned Mr. Carter, eventually releasing The Mezzanine, a full-length album that has received critical acclaim from the likes of NPR, Music Row Magazine, The Big Takeover and WOXY.

Their latest Carter-engineered venture, Gentle Giant, is a quaint three-song digital single that features two new recordings in addition to a home-recorded acoustic demo. Much like The Mezzanine, these songs experiment with instrumentation and arrangement, acknowledging that less can indeed be more. Church organs, reverb-drenched vocals and carefully placed floor tom hits occupy musical space that their younger selves would have reserved for more conventional methods.

Does this mean that The Nobility are musically redeemed? Maybe, maybe not. However, if the life of any given listener is improved by .001% during the two and a half minute span each song encompasses, they will have taken a significant step in their journey to rock and roll righteousness.

The Mezzanine

*MP3 files are compatible with all MP3 devices*
Unless you’re a major audio nerd, we recommend the 320k MP3 format option

On 2007′s full-length album, The Mezzanine, The Nobility broadened their musical repertoire with a deeper exploration of narrative lyrics and less conventional arrangements, with orchestrations featuring cello, tuba, saxophone, flute, violin and French horn. The sessions were documented to magnetic 2-inch tape on classic 1970s analog gear at Brian Carter’s Murfreesboro, Tennessee studio.

While making The Mezzanine band members continued to listen to early Paul McCartney and Kinks records, as they have since they were chubby lads just out of diapers.

Sean Williams is the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist, Stephen Jerkins dabbles in piano, organ, guitar and backing vocals, Brian Fuzzell plays drums and percussion, and a rotating cast of friends handle bass guitar and backing vocals.

The Art of Building a Moat

*MP3 files are compatible with all MP3 devices*
Unless you’re a major audio nerd, we recommend the 320k MP3 format option

Originally released Feb. 2005, The Art of Building a Moat was available on iTunes until early 2009 when it was removed without warning. Now under The Nobility name the EP is again digitally available.

Physical copies were reissued in March 2006 by now defunct Heatstroke Records.

Previously The Nobility was called Jetpack (and later Jetpack UK), but another band had the copyright or at least a better lawyer and so a name change occurred in 2007.
